Deadline 30 Minutes!

Details

Fast-paced, organisational task - seemingly straightforward but full of pitfalls for the unwary!

You’re preparing pay packets for 12 casual workers. Each team member holds different information on the work dockets. Share this verbally (not by showing) with the whole team to establish who is owed what. Accuracy is paramount (don’t for example confuse workers Tammy Marters and Tommy Masters).

Participants will learn

* the importance of accuracy and attention to detail
* to get organised as a team and to allocate roles
* to work to a tight deadline
* to share information with others in a helpful way
* to show the need for objectives to be clear and for a method of working to be agreed on right at the start

Mission Improbable

Details

Your team has to (theoretically) get 200 eggs to a given destination in the Lake District carrying them on a stretcher-like device.

You are linked to the other team only by intercom (provided) which you’ll be keen to use when you realise their map contains vital information (and vice versa). To encourage co-operation you are informed that it is the combined final score that counts but will you accept that you are not competing with each other? Clearly supportive communication between the two camps is essential if you are to receive the maximum score possible!

Participants will learn

* the dangers of making assumptions
* the benefits of supporting fellow teams
* to give information freely when appropriate
* how to communicate in a disciplined manner
* to develop trust and confidence
* how to interact as a group and work as a team
Price: £350.00

Airlift

Details

AirLift is all about coordinating a series of mini-problems in order to achieve the overall objective.

A remote, disaster-struck area needs your urgent help. You arrange an air-drop of emergency supplies - tents, blankets, food, medicines (represented by coloured blocks) to eight separate villages.

Participants will learn

* to define the problem facing them
* to split the overall job into sub-problems and delegate appropriately
* to coordinate all aspects of the task towards a clear objective
* to maximise use of resources
* to use teamwork skills to maximise overall performance

Price: £415.00

RollaBall

Details

Three teams and one objective – to construct a runway that will allow a ping-pong ball to run from one end to the other.

Euphoria if the ball completes its course – recriminations if it doesn’t! Teams have to work together to succeed.

Participants will learn

* to work as an effective team
* to collaborate rather than compete
* to work and cooperate with other teams
Price: £415.00

Houston we have a problem

Details

As teams of lunar astronauts you address the logistics of collecting rock samples, erecting a laser beacon and planting a flag.

With limited amounts of oxygen and water, between-team cooperation is the only viable solution and the sooner all teams accept this the better!

Participants will learn

* to recognise when there is a need for help and a need to help others
* to clarify problems and set clear team objectives
* to develop problem-solving strategies
* to keep everyone informed, to listen carefully and communicate clearly with others
* to give information freely in a spirit of enlightened group-interest
* to keep calm under pressure

Antarctic Challenge

Details

The whole activity is based on a real expedition which lends great credibility and excitement to the exercise.

Teams start with just a letter congratulating them on mounting an expedition to the South Pole. The next step is brainstorming to draw up a shortlist of data required and to submit it as written requests to the Databank (controlled by the Trainer). The Databank opens only at intervals - which helps to focus team thinking. Requests at further openings are always more fruitful as teams gain more understanding of what the expedition entails.

Participants will learn

* to brainstorm in order to decide what information is required
* to break a project into bite-sized chunks
* to establish the key factors around which to base plans
* to plan within given limits such as cost, weight and weather
* to manage time and resources (especially fuel)
* to co-operate with others and work as a team (and maintain morale)
* to collect and interpret data and information
* to review progress regularly
* to make a persuasive presentation for funds
